Sonamarg, meaning 'Meadow of Gold', sits at an altitude of 2,800m and is one of Kashmir's most spectacular destinations. Located at the gateway to Ladakh, it's surrounded by majestic glaciers including Thajiwas Glacier, alpine meadows carpeted with flowers, and the roaring Sindh River. The town serves as a base for trekking to high-altitude lakes and crossing the famous Zoji La Pass. In summer, the meadows come alive with wildflowers, while winter transforms it into a snow wonderland.

Sonamarg is the last major town before Zoji La Pass, historically an important trade route to Ladakh.
Due to heavy snowfall, Sonamarg is largely inaccessible in winter, making it a seasonal destination.
The region is famous among trekkers for routes to Kashmir Great Lakes and Amarnath Cave.
